Grade Tracking

Academica automatically tracks your grades from Canvas LMS and Google Classroom, giving you a clear picture of your academic progress. This guide explains how grade tracking works.

How Grades Are Synced#

Canvas LMS#

When you visit Canvas:

  1. The extension scans for grade information
  2. New grades are sent to Academica
  3. Your grade data updates automatically

Google Classroom#

When you sync Google Classroom:

  1. Click "Sync Google Classroom" in the extension
  2. Grades and assignments are pulled from your classes
  3. Your data updates in Academica

What Gets Synced#

  • Individual assignment grades
  • Course overall grades
  • Grade category breakdowns
  • Points earned and possible

Viewing Your Grades#

In the Assignments Table#

Each assignment shows:

  • Grade column - Your score (e.g., "85/100")
  • Percentage - Score as percent (e.g., "85%")
  • Status - Graded, pending, missing, etc.

In the Dashboard#

See grade summaries:

  • Average grade across courses
  • Number of graded assignments
  • Grade trends over time

Understanding Grade Statuses#

StatusWhat It Means
GradedTeacher assigned a grade
PendingSubmitted, waiting for grade
MissingPast due, 0 points, no submission
ExcusedTeacher excused you
Not StartedNot yet submitted

How Statuses Are Determined#

Statuses come from your actual grades:

  • If you have points > 0 → Graded
  • If you submitted but no grade yet → Pending
  • If past due with 0 points and no submission → Missing
  • If teacher marked excused → Excused

Note: Academica uses grade data, not Canvas badge labels, for accuracy.

Grade Categories#

If your teacher uses grade categories (like "Homework 40%, Tests 60%"):

Category Breakdown#

  • See each category's percentage
  • View assignments within categories
  • Track category averages

Category Weights#

  • Understand how categories affect your grade
  • See weighted vs. unweighted scores

Course Grades#

Overall Grade#

Your course grade shows:

  • Current percentage
  • Letter grade (if available)
  • Points earned / points possible

Grade Calculation#

Academica displays the grade Canvas calculates. This includes:

  • Weighted categories (if used)
  • Dropped lowest grades (if enabled)
  • Extra credit (if allowed)

Grade Accuracy#

Sync Timing#

  • Grades update when you visit Canvas
  • New grades appear within seconds
  • Teacher updates may take a few minutes

Ensuring Accuracy#

For the most accurate grades:

  1. Visit the Grades page in Canvas
  2. Check each course periodically
  3. Use "Sync Now" after expecting new grades

Discrepancies#

If Academica grades don't match Canvas:

  1. Visit the Canvas Grades page
  2. Trigger a manual sync
  3. Wait 30 seconds and refresh
  4. Report a bug if still wrong

Grade Privacy#
