Assignments

The Assignments page is your single source of truth for all assignments. Here you can view, sort, filter, and manage everything in one place.

Viewing Assignments#

When you open the Assignments page, you'll see a table with all your assignments. Each row shows:

ColumnDescription
TitleAssignment name
CourseWhich class it's for
Due DateWhen it's due
StatusCurrent status (see below)
GradeYour score (if graded)
PointsPoints possible

Understanding Statuses#

Assignments have different statuses based on your progress:

StatusMeaning
Not StartedAssignment hasn't been submitted yet
PendingSubmitted but not yet graded
GradedTeacher has assigned a grade
MissingPast due with no submission and 0 points
ExcusedTeacher excused you from this assignment

Note: Statuses are determined by your grades in Canvas, not by Canvas badges.

Sorting Assignments#

Click any column header to sort by that column:

  • Click once to sort ascending (A-Z, oldest first, lowest grade)
  • Click again to sort descending (Z-A, newest first, highest grade)
  • A small arrow indicates the current sort direction

Popular sorts:

  • Due Date - See what's coming up next
  • Status - Group missing assignments together
  • Course - See all assignments for one class

Filtering Assignments#

  • Due Soon - Assignments due in the next 7 days

Tips#

  • Use filters to focus on what matters (e.g., filter to "Missing" to see what needs attention)
  • Sort by due date to plan your work
  • Check regularly - Canvas syncs automatically, but a quick review helps
  • Add manual assignments for tasks Canvas doesn't track
