Bug Reporting

Found something that's not working right? Use the built-in bug reporting feature to let us know. This guide shows you how.


How to Report a Bug#

Step 1: Open the Bug Report#

Find the bug report option:

  • Click "Report a Bug" in the sidebar footer
  • Or go to Settings → Report a Bug

Step 2: Describe the Issue#

Fill out the form:

Title (required)

  • Brief summary of the problem
  • Example: "Assignments not showing after sync"

Description (required)

  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened instead
  • Steps to reproduce (if you know them)

Step 3: Add Details (Optional)#

Screenshots

  • Click "Add Screenshot" to attach images
  • Up to 5 screenshots, 5 MB each
  • Helpful for showing error messages or UI issues

Console Logs

  • Check the box to include technical logs
  • Helps us debug issues faster
  • Only includes logs from the last 10 minutes

Step 4: Submit#

  1. Click "Submit Report"
  2. Wait for confirmation
  3. You'll see a success message with a report ID

Writing a Good Bug Report#

Do Include:#

  • What you expected to happen
  • What actually happened
  • Steps to reproduce the issue
  • Any error messages you saw
  • When it started happening

Example Good Report:#

Title: "Grades show 0 when they should be graded"

Description: "I completed Assignment 5 in Canvas and got an 85/100. When I check Academica, it shows 0/100 for that assignment.

Steps:

  1. Go to Assignments page
  2. Find 'Math Assignment 5'
  3. Grade column shows 0/100

I tried syncing again but it still shows 0. This started happening yesterday."


After Submitting#

What Happens Next#

  1. Your report is saved to our system
  2. The team is notified
  3. We investigate the issue
  4. Fixes are released in updates

Response Time#

  • We review all reports
  • Critical bugs are prioritized
  • You may be contacted for more information

Tracking Your Report#

  • Save your report ID
  • Use it if you contact support
  • No public tracking (for privacy)

Privacy#

Your Report Is Private#

  • Only the Academica team sees it
  • Not shared publicly
  • Used only for fixing issues

Data Handling#

  • Reports stored securely
  • Deleted after issue resolved
  • No personal data sold or shared

Anonymous Reporting#

You can report bugs even if you're not signed in:

  • Basic reports still work
  • Less context for debugging
  • No way to follow up with you

We recommend signing in for better support.


Tips#

  1. Be specific - Details help us fix issues faster
  2. Include screenshots - A picture is worth 1000 words
  3. Note what changed - Did it work before? What's different?
  4. Try basic fixes first - Refresh, sign out/in, check internet
