Dark Mode

Academica supports dark mode for comfortable viewing in low-light environments. This guide shows you how to enable and customize it.


Enabling Dark Mode#

Method 1: Settings#

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar
  2. Find the Theme option
  3. Choose your preference:
    • Light - Bright background
    • Dark - Dark background
    • System - Matches your device

Method 2: Quick Toggle#

Some pages have a quick toggle:

  • Look for the sun/moon icon
  • Click to switch between light and dark

  • White/light gray backgrounds
  • Dark text
  • Best for bright environments
  • Default setting

Dark Mode#

  • Dark gray/black backgrounds
  • Light text
  • Easier on eyes in low light

Setting System Mode#

On Windows 10/11#

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Personalization → Colors
  3. Choose "Dark" or "Light" mode
  4. Academica will follow this setting

On macOS#

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Go to General
  3. Choose Appearance: Light, Dark, or Auto
  4. Academica will follow this setting

On Chrome OS#

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Personalization → Wallpaper & style
  3. Choose Light or Dark theme
  4. Academica will follow this setting

Extension Dark Mode#

The Chrome extension respects your theme choice:

  • Popup matches web app theme
  • Dashboard follows your preference
  • Changes apply automatically

Troubleshooting#

Dark mode not working#

Check browser settings

  • Some browsers force light mode
  • Check browser appearance settings
  • Disable browser dark mode extensions

Try manual setting

  • Go to Settings → Theme
  • Select "Dark" explicitly
  • Don't use "System" mode

Clear cache

  1. Clear browser cache
  2. Refresh the page
  3. Try setting theme again

Colors look wrong#

Check monitor settings

  • Adjust monitor brightness
  • Check color calibration
  • Try on another display

Browser conflicts

  • Disable dark mode extensions
