Settings

The Settings page lets you customize Academica to work the way you want. Access it from the sidebar or by clicking your profile icon.


Extension Status#

Check your Chrome extension connection:

StatusMeaning
ConnectedExtension is working and syncing
Not ConnectedExtension needs to sign in
Not InstalledInstall the extension to sync

Last Synced#

Shows when data was last synced from Canvas.

Sync Now#

Click to trigger a manual sync (you need to be on a Canvas page in another tab).

Theme#

Choose your preferred appearance:

Notifications#

Control how Academica alerts you:

Email Notifications#

  • Due Date Reminders - Get emails before assignments are due
  • Missing Assignment Alerts - Be notified of missed work
  • Grade Updates - Know when grades are posted

Push Notifications (coming soon)#

  • Browser notifications for urgent items
  • Mobile app notifications

Notification Timing#

Choose when to receive due date reminders:

  • 1 day before
  • 2 days before
  • 1 week before

Parent Access#

If you want to share your progress with a parent:

Enable Parent View#

  1. Toggle "Allow Parent Access"
  2. A unique link will be generated
  3. Share the link with your parent
  4. They can see approved plans only (not grades)

What Parents See#

  • Approved study plans
  • Time management stats
  • General progress

What Parents Don't See#

  • Individual grades
  • Draft plans
  • Detailed assignment information

Revoke Access#

Toggle off "Allow Parent Access" at any time to remove their view.


Data Management#

Export Your Data#

Download all your data as a file:

  1. Click "Export Data"
  2. Choose format (CSV or JSON)
  3. Download will start

Clear Local Data#

Remove cached data from your browser:

  • Click "Clear Cache"
  • This won't delete your account
  • Data will re-sync from Canvas

Delete Account#

Permanently remove your account:

  1. Click "Delete Account"
  2. Enter your password to confirm
  3. All data will be permanently deleted

Warning: Account deletion cannot be undone.


LMS Connections#

Canvas LMS#

See which Canvas instances are connected:

  • School name
  • Canvas URL
  • Connection status

Google Classroom#

Manage your Google Classroom connection:

  • View connected Google account
  • See last sync time
  • Disconnect if needed

Disconnect a Connection#

To stop syncing from Canvas or Google Classroom:

  1. Find it in the list
  2. Click "Disconnect"
  3. Confirm

Your existing assignments remain but won't sync anymore.


Privacy#

Data We Collect#

  • Assignment information from Canvas and Google Classroom
  • Your study plans and preferences
  • Usage analytics (anonymized)

Data We Don't Collect#

  • Your Canvas or Google passwords
  • Other websites you visit
  • Personal files

Your data is stored securely and never sold to third parties.

Troubleshooting Settings#

Changes not saving#

  • Check your internet connection
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Sign out and back in

Theme not changing#

  • Clear browser cache
  • Disable browser dark mode extensions
  • Try a different browser

Notifications not working#

  • Check browser notification permissions
  • Make sure notifications are enabled in Settings
  • Check your email spam folder
